The Invisible Life Beneath the Surface
I’ve become enchanted by a forgotten biological term: infusoria—
the name once given to the teeming, microscopic life that appears in water infused with organic material.
Invisible to the eye, yet vital to the nourishment of aquatic worlds.
Ya gotta love 7th grade biology class!
Thanks, Mr. Wigger. You made biology fun.
Anyway, so recently I got to wondering:
What is infusing the water of my spirit?
What hidden forms of nourishment might be swimming just beyond my awareness?
What subtle presences sustain us when no grand insight appears?
In the spiritual life, we often seek the dramatic—
visions, revelations, transformative signs.
But perhaps the most essential sustenance comes from what we cannot see:
the quiet synchronicity,
the gentle whisper of intuition,
the dream we almost forget upon waking—
yet still feel shaped by.
These are spiritual infusoria—microscopic mysteries that nourish the soul in silence.
They don’t arrive with fanfare.
They don’t announce themselves.
But they are there—tiny, essential, and alive in the waters of our being.
Alchemy of Decay and Renewal
Infusoria flourish in waters rich with decaying organic matter.
What a profound metaphor for the soul’s journey—
that spiritual nourishment may be born from what we think of as breakdown:
grief, loss, confusion, or the compost of old identities.
But in the hidden zones of dissolution, something begins to stir.
Not dramatic.
Not even knowable.
Yet deeply nourishing.
Tiny awakenings.
Sacred particles of renewal.
Mystical nourishment through the mystery of decay.
Seeds of Awakening in the Subconscious Sea
If water is the element of intuition, memory, and emotion—
then we are all oceans.
And like any ocean, our depths are filled with invisible life.
The spiritual infusoria that drift through our inner sea are not random.
They are seeds—minute expressions of the Divine,
waiting to be absorbed into our awareness.
What if the soul feeds not only on ideas and practices,
but on energetic micro-signatures?
What if we are constantly nourished by spiritual nutrients too small for cognition—
yet essential for awakening?
What if your entire path is being shaped by a layer of life
you’ve never been taught to see?
A Final Wondering...
So I ask myself today—
not with urgency, but with wonder:
What unseen particles are nourishing me now?
What divine microcurrents are swimming just beneath my conscious awareness?
And what would happen if I began to notice them—
not with my eyes, but with my soul’s subtle sense of attunement?
What if?
This was lovely, dear Cheryl!
Indeed. What if…
