"There is deep dignity in knowing what you are not built for.
And this sort of dignity is most often found later in life — when we’ve become just a wee bit too tired to care so much about what others think." This is so TRUE!!!!!💜😇💖☯️💗☮️💞Thank You AGAIN, Cheryl!!
I weep every time I read this poem and your absolutely beautiful and timely post. So glad you celebrate the emotional intelligence shown in that wonderful classic. I think we all should reread Pooh as adults and learn lessons that we SORELY need NOW.
Ah, yes...the Tao of Pooh...heavenly, Cheryl...and you made me laugh out loud in resonance and recall of Popeye vibes! :D Did you ever watch Felix...Felix the Cat?
There’s something profoundly subversive about this. In a culture built on optimization and reinvention, “a thing is itself” feels almost radical. We’re trained to upgrade, pivot, rebrand, improve. Cottleston Pie says: what if alignment matters more than advancement? Not resignation. Not laziness. Just integrity of form. The oak oaks. The river rivers. That’s not small. That’s peace most people spend decades trying to manufacture.
Thank you for your thoughts here, my dear. Yes, funny how, as you said: In a culture built on optimization and reinvention, “a thing is itself” feels almost radical." - I love this!
Wow. I had forgotten that from Pooh. This is a brilliant piece. It gets at a deep truth through poetry and humor. I had not connected it that way but it seems obvious now.
Ah, I think I sunk two inches deeper into my chair - exhaling, as I read your words. How marvelous to allow the being of self, without explanation or apology. But the treasure that really holds were these words from you: "What returns no matter how hard you try?" ... and that would be my Cottleson Pie. It's worth discovering and BEING! Thank you!
This came at the right time in my life (age 61). I am just done trying to climb the corporate ladder or even sit in a corporate setting. I am at home climbing mountains, photographing nature's beauty with my dog by my side! Thank you for sending this today!
You keep writing things that deserve to be shared! I love this, and it is so deeply in alignment with what has been seen recently in my world. You are right on time - WE are... timely.
I’m not a bee, but I’m being.
Cheryl, I love your young Pooh story and how it manifests in your 62 year self.
"What is the thing you do without strain?" Wow. Yes. So simple. Thank you.
I so needed to hear these words. Thank you, Cheryl.

My mother adored Winnie the Pooh. I thought of her reading this with me. Thank you for being you. 🥹

The beauty of being human. Be yourself you never have to be anyone else.
The exclamation point on my meditation this morning!
“You are who you are and that’s no small thing!”
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!! I love all of this so much. ♥️
